The Siq – Petra Canyon, Jordan: Camp Beneath the Stars of the Lost City

Camp Beneath the Stars of the Lost City

Imagine walking hand-in-hand through an ancient, narrow canyon—its walls rising steeply around you like a gateway into another world.
The Siq, a sandstone chasm leading into the lost city of Petra, is not just a path… it’s a passage through time.

📍 Although camping is not allowed inside the canyon itself, the surrounding Wadi Musa desert offers some of the most stunning and silent campsites in the Middle East. You’ll fall asleep under a sky littered with stars, just a short distance from where Nabatean traders once walked by torchlight.

🌌 As the night falls, the wind whistling through sandstone cliffs seems to whisper long-forgotten secrets of the past. And in the silence of the desert, the warmth of your campfire flickers like a heartbeat against the ancient rock.

🌿 Liora’s Tips: Where Romance Meets Ruins

💫 Avoid peak hours at The Siq. For a magical experience, arrive early in the morning or during golden hour when the light glows against the rose-colored stone.

🕯️ Bring a lantern, not just a flashlight. It enhances the mystical vibe of your campsite and turns every shadow into a story.

🌬️ Don’t camp too close to the rock walls. Winds can funnel through the canyons at night—choose a flat, open spot with natural wind barriers.

🐪 Use a camel-friendly bag. If you’re hiking or being transported to your campsite, traditional bags might not fit well on desert animals.

🌌 Sleep outside your tent at least one night. Under the stars of Jordan, with the ancient silence of Petra around you… it’s a once-in-a-lifetime feeling.

💛 And most importantly… If you’re lucky enough to be camping with someone you love, let the ruins teach you this:
Even what time tries to bury can still be beautiful.
